Dr. Montessori said, “The hand is a delicate and structurally complicated organ, which not only allows the mind to manifest itself, but to enter into special relationships with the environment. Man, as we say takes possession of his environment by his hand, thus fulfilling his mission on the great stage of the universe.”
“In order to learn the child must first be able to concentrate…But no one can force concentration upon her. She develops concentration by fixing her attention on some task she is performing with her hands…”
The child is not only directed by his hand but directs the teacher in the understanding of the child’s own unique development.
Every passing of man is marked by the skill of his hand. Only through the hand of man have we learned of his thoughts and learned of traditions of other people in different places.
